The project "Screening and Promotion of Children and Adolescents Health: A European Public Health Perspective (KIDSCREEN)" developed and psychometrically tested a standardised questionnaire to assess health related quality of life in children and adolescents. The KIDSCREEN instrument was developed simultaneously in 13 European countries.
The KIDSCREEN is applicable for healthy and chronically ill children and adolescents aged 8 to 18 years. A proxy version for parents or primary care-givers is available.
The KIDSCREEN can be used to identify children at risk in terms of their subjective health. Including the instrument in health service research and health reporting enables researchers and practitioners to suggest appropriate early interventions.
Work in the KIDSCREEN project took place from 2000 until 2004. The cooperation between the partners of the project is still going on in the “European KIDSCREEN group”. This research association is still working on the improvement of the KIDSCREEN instrument.
The official KIDSCREEN manual can be obtained from Pabst Science Publishers.
